Possums whilst often viewed as a cute Australian mammal are classified as pests. Habits of chewing on anything and taking up residence in roof cavities make them similar to rodents.

Possums are a protected species under NSW Environment and Heritage laws and so need to be trapped. They cannot be baited. As they are very territorial they must be released after trapping within a few hundred meters of the original trapping site.

It is important to proof all holes in a roof and remove branches overhanging a roof to ensure a possum does not find its way back inside the same roof.
